The Voice in the Night
Art Bell was the creator and longtime host of Coast to Coast AM — the overnight radio programme that at its peak reached 15 million listeners nightly across hundreds of stations. For three decades, Bell gave researchers, witnesses, and scientists a national platform to discuss UAP, the paranormal, and government secrecy in a format that reached audiences who would never have encountered these topics through mainstream media.
Bell's contribution was more cultural than investigative: he created the audience and the cultural space within which UAP research could be taken seriously by millions of ordinary Americans. Many of the most significant figures in UAP — from Bob Lazar to Stanton Friedman — reached their largest audiences through Bell's programme.
The Platform Legacy
Coast to Coast AM continues under different hosts and remains one of the most listened-to overnight radio programmes in the United States. Bell's model — serious, open-minded engagement with extraordinary claims — influenced a generation of podcasters and commentators who have carried the conversation into the digital era. He died in 2018.
