The Officer Who Handled the Debris
Major Jesse Marcel was the intelligence officer at Roswell Army Air Field who was dispatched to the Foster Ranch in July 1947 to recover debris from an unidentified crash. Marcel described the material as unlike anything he had ever seen — extremely light, incredibly strong, and bearing unusual properties that defied conventional explanation.
Marcel was initially celebrated by the military for recovering what was briefly described as a "flying disc," before the official narrative was changed to a weather balloon. He spent years in silence before going public shortly before his death, maintaining that what he handled was not terrestrial in origin.
The Cover-Up He Witnessed
Marcel's account is considered central to the Roswell case. His son, Jesse Marcel Jr., who also handled the debris as a child, corroborated his father's description in subsequent testimony. Marcel Sr. remains one of the most credible firsthand witnesses to the physical evidence at Roswell.
