The Man Who Ran the UFO Desk
Nick Pope worked for the British Ministry of Defence for 21 years, spending three of those years — from 1991 to 1994 — running the department's official UFO investigation programme. He began the role as a sceptic and left it convinced that a genuine, unexplained phenomenon existed in the data, and that the government was not taking it seriously enough.
Pope has been open about the limitations of the MoD's investigation: understaffed, underfunded, and institutionally resistant to taking the subject seriously. He has also stated publicly that some of the most significant material was never properly investigated and that the decision to close the programme in 2009 was driven by political convenience rather than genuine resolution.
Public Voice
Since leaving the MoD, Pope has become one of the most prominent public commentators on UAP — appearing in documentaries, advising on film productions, and commenting on developments in the U.S. disclosure process. His institutional background gives him credibility on the mechanics of government UFO secrecy that few other commentators can match.
